The college mainly focuses on the major national needs for the intelligent construction of mines and has developed distinctive and advantageous directions in the industry: the design theory of mining equipment, the mechatronics-hydraulics integration technology for mining equipment, and the advanced manufacturing technology for mining equipment.
The school has a national key discipline in Mechanical Design and Theory, a Jiangsu Provincial Key Discipline in Mechanical Engineering, a Jiangsu Provincial Superior Discipline Construction Platform, a Postdoctoral Research Station in Mechanical Engineering, a Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering (First-Level Discipline), and a Professional Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering. The school has the State Key Laboratory of Intelligent Mining Equipment Technology, the Jiangsu Province and Education Ministry Co-sponsored Collaborative Innovation Center of Intelligent Mining Equipment, the Intelligent Mining Equipment Innovation Center for Introducing Talents of Universities, the National Energy R&D Center for Coal Mining and Excavation Equipment, the Jiangsu Engineering Technology Research Center for Intelligent Fully-Mechanized Mining and Excavation Equipment, the Key Laboratory of Mine Electromechanical Equipment in Jiangsu Universities, and the Jiangsu Province Engineering Research Center for Intelligent Mine Equipment. In collaboration with XCMG, the school has established the Mining Intelligent Equipment Technology Research Institute. In addition, it has a National Engineering Practice Education Center and a key base for industry-education integration in Jiangsu Province. In 2025, it was approved to establish a provincial industrial software college.
In the past five years, as the first completion unit and the primary completer, it has won 1 second prize of the National Technology Invention Award and 1 second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, as well as more than 20 provincial and ministerial-level awards such as the first prize of the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and the second prize of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award. It has undertaken 4 projects and 8 sub-projects funded by the National Key R&D Program of China, 4 key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, more than 60 general and youth Scientists projects, and more than 80 other provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects. The school attaches great importance to international exchanges. It has established cooperative relations with more than 10 renowned universities, including Michigan State University, the University of Kentucky, Duisburg-Essen University in Germany, and York University in Canada. It has established 3 overseas internship bases in the United States, Germany, and France, and carried out exchange activities such as student exchanges, teacher exchanges, overseas internships, and scientific research cooperation.
