Overview

The School of Mechatronic Engineering can trace its history back to the Mechanical Engineering Department established in 1946 at the Private Jiaozuo Institute of Technology. With a history of 79 years, it has a strong influence in the fields of national mining machinery and construction machinery. The school now has 129 faculty and staff, including 109 full-time teachers. There is 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (distinguished professor), 1 foreign academician (distinguished professor), 5 national high-level talents, 1 recipient of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Innovation Award, 2 National Outstanding Engineer Award winners, 2 recipients of the Special Government Allowance, 1 China Youth Science and Technology Award winner, and over 70 recipients of provincial and ministerial-level talent title. It also possesses a National Huang Danian-style Teacher Team, a innovation team of the Ministry of Education, 2 Jiangsu Provincial University Outstanding Science and Technology Innovation Teams, a Jiangsu Provincial "Six Talent Peaks" Innovation and Talent Team, and an Outstanding Teaching Team of the "Blue Project" in Jiangsu Universities.

The school has 3 undergraduate majors: Mechanical Engineering, Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, and Robotics Engineering. Mechanical Engineering has passed the international engineering education certification and is a national first-class undergraduate major.The school has a national key discipline in Mechanical Design and Theory, a Jiangsu Province Key Discipline in Mechanical Engineering, a Jiangsu Province Superior Discipline Construction Platform, a Postdoctoral Research Station in Mechanical Engineering, a Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering (First-Level Discipline), and a  Professional Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering.

The school has a Department of Mechanical Engineering, a Department of Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, a Department of Robotics Engineering, a Basic Teaching Research Center, and a Mechatronic Engineering Experimental Center. The school has the State Key Laboratory of Intelligent Mining Equipment Technology, the Jiangsu Province and Education Ministry Co-sponsored Collaborative Innovation Center of Intelligent Mining Equipment, the Intelligent Mining Equipment Innovation  Center for Introducing Talents of Universities, the National Energy R&D Center for Coal Mining and Excavation Equipment, the Jiangsu Engineering Technology Research Center for Intelligent Fully-Mechanized Mining and Excavation Equipment, the Key Laboratory of Mine Electromechanical Equipment in Jiangsu Universities, and the Jiangsu Province Engineering Research Center for Intelligent Mine Equipment. In collaboration with XCMG, the school has established the Mining Intelligent Equipment Technology Research Institute. In addition, it has a National Engineering Practice Education Center and a key base for industry-education integration in Jiangsu Province. In 2025, it was approved to establish a provincial industrial software college.

The school has 3 national planning textbooks, 2 national first-class undergraduate courses, 1 national excellent resource sharing course, 4 Jiangsu provincial first-class undergraduate courses, and 2 provincial online open courses. In the past five years, it has won 2 second prizes in the Jiangsu Provincial Outstanding Teaching Achievement Award, 1 special prize and 7 first prizes in the National Coal Industry Education and Teaching Achievement Awards, 2 second prizes in the Coal Industry Excellent Textbook Award, 1 first prize and 2 second prizes in the Jiangsu Micro-course Teaching Competition. It has also obtained 1 Ministry of Education research and practice project on "Emerging Engineering Education", and 10 Ministry of Education Industry-Academia Collaborative Education Programs.

The school focuses on the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. In the past five years, as the first completion unit and the primary completer, it has won 1 second prize of the National  Technology Invention Award and 1 second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, as well as more than 20 provincial and ministerial-level awards such as the first prize of the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and the second prize of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award. It has undertaken 4 projects and 8 sub-projects funded by the  National Key R&D Program of China, 4 key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, more than 60 general and youth Scientists projects, and more than 80 other provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects.

The school aims to cultivate academic leaders, social leaders, and industry leaders, and has trained a large number of excellent professional talents for the country. Over the past 79 years, the school has successively trained more than 20,000 graduates. There are currently more than 2,300 students in the school, including more than 100 doctoral students, more than 600 master's students, and more than 1,600 undergraduate students. In the past five years, students have won a total of more than 450 awards in scientific and technological innovation competitions at the provincial level and higherl, such as the China International College Students "Internet +" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the "Challenge Cup" National College Students Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition. Students have undertaken more than 270 national, Jiangsu provincial and school-level college students' innovation and training projects.

The school attaches great importance to international exchanges. It has established cooperative relations with more than 10 renowned universities, including Michigan State University, the University of Kentucky, Duisburg-Essen University in Germany, and York University in Canada. It has established 3 overseas internship bases in the United States, Germany, and France, and carried out exchange activities such as student exchanges, teacher exchanges, overseas internships, and scientific research cooperation. There are currently more than 100 international students.

In the foreseeable future, the School of Mechatronic Engineering will spares no effort to build a domestically first-class research-oriented college with distinct characteristics.
